Is your sole trader accounting on track?

Answer five quick questions and get a personalised next step based on where your books actually stand.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

As a sole trader, these are the three areas where getting things wrong costs you real money, and where I take the pressure off entirely.

01

Self Assessment Tax Returns

I handle your self assessment from start to finish, making sure every allowable expense is claimed and your return is filed accurately and on time. You give me your income and outgoings, and I take care of the rest. No forms to wade through on your own, no last-minute panic in January.

02

Bookkeeping and Bank Reconciliation

I keep your day-to-day records in order so you always know where you stand financially. Under cash basis accounting, which is now the default method for sole traders, records need to reflect when money actually moves, and I make sure yours do. Clean books mean accurate tax returns and no nasty surprises.

03

VAT Returns

If you are VAT registered, or approaching the threshold, I handle your quarterly submissions and advise you on the scheme that suits your business. Missing a VAT deadline carries real penalties, and I make sure that never happens on my watch. From registration through to filing, it is all covered.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Three things that make a genuine difference when you are running a business on your own.

You always speak to me directly

I am David, and I run STZ Accounting personally. When you call or message, you reach me, not a junior member of staff who needs to check with someone else. I know your business, your situation, and your tax history. That continuity matters when you need a quick answer or something urgent comes up.

A fixed price, agreed upfront

The Sole Trader Package is priced at £150 plus VAT per month and covers invoicing, bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, VAT returns, annual accounts, and your personal self assessment. You know exactly what you are paying before we start, and that figure does not change mid-year without your agreement.

Over 25 years in real business before qualifying

I ran businesses for more than two decades before I became an accountant. I understand the cash flow pressure, the shoebox of receipts, and the uncertainty about what you can actually claim. My advice comes from experience on both sides of the table, not just a textbook.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting started takes less than 30 minutes of your time, and I do the heavy lifting from there.

01

Book a free call

You pick a time that suits you and we spend 20 to 30 minutes on a call. I ask about your business, your current records, and what you need. No sales script, just a straightforward conversation to see if we are a good fit.

02

I send you a fixed price quote

Based on what you have told me, I send a clear written quote with everything included and nothing hidden. You know exactly what you are paying before anything starts.

03

I take over your books and compliance

Once you are on board, I set up your bookkeeping, request access to your records, and take full responsibility for keeping everything in order. You stop worrying about deadlines because I am tracking them for you.

04

You get same-day answers whenever you need them

Throughout the year, you can message or call me with questions. I respond the same day. Whether it is a question about an expense, a letter from HMRC, or a change in your circumstances, I deal with it promptly so nothing gets overlooked.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

There is no legal requirement to use an accountant, but most sole traders who try to handle it themselves end up missing allowable expenses or filing late. A good accountant typically saves more in tax than their fee costs, and removes a significant amount of stress from your year. The question is usually not whether you can afford one, but whether you can afford the cost of getting it wrong.
HMRC requires you to keep records of all business income and expenses for your self assessment return. Under the cash basis method, which became the default from the 2024 to 2025 tax year, you record income when money is received and expenses when money is paid. You must keep those records for at least five years after the 31 January submission deadline for the relevant tax year.
From 6 April 2026, sole traders with total annual income over £50,000 are required to use Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. This means digital record-keeping and quarterly updates to HMRC, rather than a single annual return. If your income is approaching that threshold, it is worth getting your records set up properly now so the transition is straightforward.
The Sole Trader Package is £150 plus VAT per month. That covers invoicing, bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, VAT returns, annual accounts, and your personal self assessment. It is a fixed monthly price, agreed before we start, with no additional charges for questions or calls throughout the year.
