WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

Whether this is your first return or you have filed before and want someone reliable to take it off your plate, I manage the whole process for you.

01

Full Self Assessment Preparation and Filing

I collect your income and expense information, calculate your tax liability, apply every allowance and relief you qualify for, and file the return with HMRC before the deadline. You are not left to guess what figures go where. I explain what we are submitting and why before anything is filed.

Deadline guaranteed
02

Tax Liability Review and Planning

Before I file, I review your figures to make sure you are not paying more tax than you should. This includes checking expenses, pension contributions, and any reliefs that apply to your circumstances. If there is a legal way to reduce your bill, I will flag it.

Included as standard
03

HMRC Registration and Agent Authorisation

If you are new to self assessment or have never registered with HMRC, I handle that for you. I also act as your authorised agent, which means I can deal with HMRC directly on your behalf if any questions arise. You never have to spend an hour on hold to a government helpline.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Most clients who file their first return with me carry on working with me because the experience is genuinely different from doing it alone or using a large, impersonal firm.

You always deal with me directly

When you send a message or pick up the phone, you speak to me, not a junior or a call handler reading from a screen. I know your situation because I handled your return last year. That continuity matters when your circumstances change.

A fixed price agreed before we start

You know the cost upfront. There are no hourly rates that creep up and no invoice that surprises you at the end. If your situation is straightforward, the price reflects that. If it is more complex, I will tell you before we begin.

25 years of real business experience behind the advice

I spent over 25 years running businesses before I qualified as an accountant. That means I understand the pressures you face as a sole trader, contractor, or landlord in a way that goes beyond the textbook. The advice I give is practical, not just technically correct.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting your self assessment filed is a straightforward four-step process and I guide you through each one.

01

Book a free call

We spend around 20 minutes on the phone. You tell me about your income sources for the year and I confirm what information I need from you. No forms to fill in before we speak.

02

Send me your documents

I give you a clear list of what to pull together. This typically includes income records, expense receipts, and any PAYE information if relevant. You send them securely and I take it from there.

03

I prepare and review the return with you

I prepare the return, check for every allowance that applies, and share the figures with you before filing. You approve what is being submitted and I answer any questions in plain English.

04

Filed with HMRC, deadline met

Once you are happy, I file directly with HMRC and send you confirmation. Your tax liability is calculated, your payment deadline is clear, and the job is done.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

You need to file if you are self-employed as a sole trader and earn more than £1,000 in a tax year. You also need to file if you receive rental income, have capital gains, or receive income that has not been taxed at source. If you are unsure whether you qualify, book a free call and I will give you a straight answer.
HMRC issues an automatic £100 penalty the day after the deadline, even if no tax is owed. After three months, daily penalties of £10 apply up to £900. After six months, a further charge of 5% of the tax due or £300, whichever is greater, is added. Filing as early as possible after the tax year ends on 5 April avoids all of this.
You are not the first person to come to me in that situation. HMRC can be approached to bring accounts up to date and, in some cases, penalties can be reduced where there is a reasonable excuse. I will look at where you stand and tell you plainly what needs to happen next.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is a government requirement for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income above certain thresholds to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates. It applies from April 2026 for those earning over £50,000 and from April 2027 for those earning over £30,000. I help clients understand whether it applies to them and what they need to do to prepare.
