WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From organising your records to filing your return with HMRC, I take care of everything your self assessment requires.

01

Self Assessment Tax Return

I prepare and file your self assessment tax return from start to finish. Every allowable business expense is identified and claimed, so your tax bill is as low as it legally can be. You receive a clear summary of what you owe and why before anything is submitted.

Filed directly with HMRC
02

Year-End Accounts for Sole Traders

Your year-end accounts give HMRC the figures they need and give you a clear picture of how your business performed. I prepare these from whatever records you have, whether that is a spreadsheet, a pile of receipts, or a bank statement. No judgement, just results.

Plain English summary included
03

Bookkeeping and Records Support

If your records are disorganised or incomplete, I can help get them into shape before your return is prepared. Day-to-day bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, and income and expense tracking are all available as part of an ongoing package. Keeping things tidy throughout the year makes the return process much quicker.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Three things that make a genuine difference when you need your self assessment done right.

You always deal with David directly

There are no junior staff, no handoffs, and no call centres at STZ Accounting. When you send a message, I answer it. When you have a question about your tax bill, I am the person who explains it. That consistency matters when you are trusting someone with your finances.

A fixed price, agreed before any work starts

You will know exactly what your self assessment costs before I begin. There are no hourly rates to worry about and no invoice surprises at the end. The price is fixed and it is confirmed in writing.

Over 25 years of real business experience

I ran businesses for more than 25 years before I qualified as an accountant. That means I understand what sole traders actually go through, not just the tax rules that apply to them. I bring both perspectives to every return I file.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting your self assessment sorted is a straightforward four-step process, and I guide you through each one.

01

Book a free call

We spend 20 to 30 minutes on the phone going over your situation. I find out what income sources you have, what records you hold, and whether there are any missed deadlines to address. There is no charge and no obligation.

02

Send me your records

You share whatever you have, invoices, bank statements, receipts, or a spreadsheet. I tell you exactly what I need so there is no guessing. If your records need tidying up first, I handle that too.

03

I prepare your return

I work through your figures, identify every expense you are entitled to claim, and prepare your self assessment return in full. Before anything is submitted, I send you a clear summary showing your taxable profit, your tax liability, and what to expect from HMRC.

04

Filed and confirmed

Once you are happy with the figures, I file your return directly with HMRC. You receive confirmation of submission and I remain available to answer any follow-up questions the same day they arrive.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

Yes. If you earned any income from self-employment in the tax year, you are required to file a self assessment return with HMRC, even if your profit was below the personal allowance. You also need to register for self assessment by 5 October following the tax year in which you started trading. If you are not sure whether you are registered, I can check that for you on the free call.
The immediate penalty for a late return is £100, applied on 31 January regardless of how much tax you owe. After three months, daily penalties of £10 begin to apply. The good news is that the sooner you file, the sooner the penalties stop. I can get your return filed quickly, and in some cases penalties can be appealed if there was a reasonable excuse for the delay.
At a minimum, I need a record of your income for the year and any business expenses you have incurred. Bank statements, invoices, receipts, or a simple spreadsheet all work. If your records are incomplete or disorganised, that is fine. I have helped plenty of sole traders piece together figures from what they have available, and I will tell you exactly what I need on the free call.
Sole traders can access a full service package from £150 plus VAT per month, which includes bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual accounts, and your personal self assessment. If you only need a one-off return prepared and filed, I will give you a fixed price on the call before any work begins. There are no hourly rates and no hidden charges.
