Is your plumbing business tax-ready?

Answer five quick questions and find out exactly where your finances stand and what to do next.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From day-to-day bookkeeping to your year-end tax return, I take care of the financial side so you can focus on the work.

01

Self Assessment Tax Returns

As a self-employed plumber, you need to file a self assessment tax return with HMRC every year. I handle the whole thing from start to finish, making sure every allowable expense is claimed. You tell me what came in and went out, and I take it from there.

Sole traders and subcontractors
02

Bookkeeping and VAT Returns

I keep your day-to-day records clean, reconcile your bank, and make sure your VAT returns go in correctly and on time. If you are VAT-registered or approaching the threshold, I will advise on the right scheme for a plumbing business. No chasing receipts at the last minute.

VAT-registered and growing businesses
03

CIS Returns and Payroll

If you work as a CIS subcontractor or use subbies yourself, the deductions and monthly statements need to be right. I handle CIS returns, subcontractor verification, and payroll submissions so nothing gets missed. You stay compliant without having to think about it.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

The reasons are practical, not promotional.

You always speak to David, not a junior

When you call or message, I pick it up. There is no one else at STZ Accounting handling your file. That means your questions get answered properly, fast, by someone who knows your situation. It is the kind of service I wanted to offer when I started this practice.

A fixed price, agreed before I start

You will know the cost before any work begins. There are no time-based billing surprises and no invoice that looks different from what was discussed. Plumbing businesses run on tight margins and I respect that.

Real business experience behind the advice

I spent over 25 years running businesses before I qualified as an accountant. That means I understand what it is like to manage cash flow, price jobs, and worry about whether last month was actually profitable. The advice I give is grounded in that experience.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Four straightforward steps and your accounting is in good hands.

01

Book a free call

Use the booking link to pick a time that suits you. There is no obligation and no sales pitch. I just want to understand your situation and make sure I can help.

02

I review your current setup

You tell me what you have got – spreadsheets, a shoebox, or nothing at all. I work out exactly what needs doing and give you a fixed price for the work before anything starts.

03

I take over the accounting

Once you are happy to go ahead, I get your records straight, register you where needed, and start handling your bookkeeping, returns, and filings. You will know where things stand at every stage.

04

Ongoing support, same-day responses

Every question you have gets a same-day answer. Deadlines are tracked and filed on time. You focus on running your plumbing business and I handle the financial side.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

You are not legally required to use an accountant, but most self-employed plumbers find the cost is quickly recovered through allowances they were not claiming before. A qualified accountant also keeps you on the right side of HMRC deadlines, which matters more as your income grows. If you earn over a certain threshold you may also need to comply with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, which adds another layer of admin.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is a government scheme that requires self-employed people to submit quarterly income and expenses updates to HMRC digitally, rather than one annual tax return. If your qualifying income was over 50,000 for the 2024 to 2025 tax year, you should have started using it from April 2026. The threshold drops to 30,000 for 2027 and 20,000 for 2028. I can check whether it applies to you and set up the right process if it does.
It depends on whether you are a sole trader, a limited company, or a CIS subcontractor, and what services you need. Sole trader packages start from 150 per month plus VAT and cover bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual accounts and your self assessment. I give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know exactly what you are paying.
Yes. CIS deductions, monthly statements, subcontractor verification and offset claims are all part of what I handle. Many plumbers working under the Construction Industry Scheme miss out on reclaiming deductions correctly, which costs them money. I make sure the numbers are right and the submissions go in on time.
