Is your freelance tax situation under control?

Answer five quick questions and get a clear, personalised next step based on where your books actually stand.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From keeping your records straight to filing your tax return on time, I take the financial admin off your plate so you do not have to think about it.

01

Self Assessment Tax Returns

I handle your self assessment from start to finish, making sure every allowable expense is claimed and your return is filed correctly before the deadline. You do not need to know which boxes to fill in or what HMRC expects. I sort it and let you know what you owe, clearly and in plain English.

Filed on time, every time
02

Bookkeeping

I keep your income and expenses recorded and reconciled throughout the year so there are no surprises when your tax return is due. Good bookkeeping means you always know where you stand financially. It also makes your self assessment much faster to complete.

Ongoing or catch-up available
03

VAT Returns

If your freelance income crosses the VAT threshold, or if you have voluntarily registered, I handle your quarterly VAT returns and make sure you are on the right VAT scheme for your situation. I also advise on whether registering makes sense before you are required to.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Freelancers stay with STZ Accounting because they get a direct, reliable service that actually does what it promises.

You always deal with David directly

There are no junior staff, no handoffs, and no call centres here. When you send a message, I reply. When you have a question, I answer it in plain English, not in accounting terms you have to decipher. That is how I run every client relationship.

A fixed price agreed before any work starts

You know what you are paying before I do anything. No hourly billing that creeps up, no invoice that catches you off guard. Freelancers running lean need to know their costs. That is why I quote a fixed price and stick to it.

Real business experience, not just accountancy theory

I spent over 25 years in the real business world before I qualified as an accountant. That means I understand what it is like to manage your own income, worry about cash flow, and try to make sense of what HMRC wants from you. I am not guessing at your situation. I have lived versions of it.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting started is straightforward, and you will know exactly what happens at every stage.

01

Book a free call

You book a free call directly with me. No sales team, no intake form that disappears into a void. We talk through your freelance situation, what you have done so far, and what you actually need.

02

I review your situation

After our call I look at what you have, whether that is a folder of receipts, a spreadsheet, or nothing at all. I tell you where things stand and what needs to be done, in plain terms.

03

You get a fixed price quote

I send you a clear, fixed price for the work. No vague estimates, no open-ended hourly billing. You decide whether you want to go ahead, with no pressure either way.

04

I handle it and keep you informed

Once you are on board I take care of your bookkeeping, tax return, or whatever else we agreed. I keep you updated, respond to your questions the same day, and make sure every deadline is hit.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

Yes. If you earn more than £1,000 from self-employed work in a tax year, you are required to register for self assessment with HMRC and file a tax return. Most freelancers need to do this even if income tax ends up being nil. The sooner you register, the better, since penalties for late registration can apply.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax requires self-employed people to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC through approved software, instead of filing one annual return. If your qualifying income is over £50,000 for the 2024 to 2025 tax year, the rules applied from 6 April 2026. If your income is over £30,000 for 2025 to 2026, you will need to comply from April 2027. I can set you up on the right software and handle your quarterly submissions for you.
You are not alone in that, and it is fixable. I can work with whatever you have, bank statements, PayPal records, invoices in your email, and piece together an accurate picture. Starting from scratch mid-year is more common than people think. The important thing is to sort it before your return deadline.
I quote a fixed price before any work starts, so you know the full cost up front. For sole traders the package starts from £150 plus VAT per month, covering bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, VAT returns, annual accounts and your personal self assessment. A free call is the right place to start if you want a price specific to your situation.
