Is your builder accounting keeping up with your business?

Answer five quick questions and get a personalised next step based on where your finances actually stand.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From your day-to-day records through to CIS submissions, VAT, payroll, and year-end accounts, I cover the financial side of running a building business.

01

CIS Returns and Subcontractor Deductions

If you work under the Construction Industry Scheme, I handle your monthly CIS returns, verify subcontractors, and make sure your deductions are calculated correctly. Getting this wrong can mean penalties, so I take care of it every month without you having to chase. You focus on the job; I keep HMRC satisfied.

Available to sole traders and limited companies
02

Bookkeeping and VAT Returns

I keep your books up to date throughout the year so you always know where your money is. Quarterly VAT returns are filed on time, with the right scheme applied to your turnover. Clear records also mean your year-end accounts take less time and cost less to produce.

Ongoing monthly service
03

Year-End Accounts and Corporation Tax

Whether you trade as a sole trader or a limited company, I produce your year-end accounts and handle your corporation tax or self assessment return. Every allowable expense is claimed and your return is filed before the deadline. No surprises, no last-minute panic.

Fixed price, filed on time
WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Builders who switch to STZ Accounting get a direct line to a qualified accountant who knows how a construction business actually runs.

You always deal with David, not a junior

There are no handoffs here. When you call or message, I answer. Every question gets a same-day response, and you never have to repeat yourself to a different person each time. That direct access matters when a deadline is close or something changes on a job.

Fixed prices with nothing hidden

You get a fixed price before any work starts. No hourly rates, no surprise invoices at the end of the month. Builders work to quoted costs on every project, and I run my practice the same way. You know exactly what you are paying and what that covers.

25 years of real business experience behind the advice

I spent over 25 years running businesses before qualifying as an accountant. That means I understand cash flow pressure, tight margins, and the reality of keeping a building operation moving. The advice you get is practical, not just technically correct.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting started takes one short call and no paperwork on your end.

01

Book a free call

You book a free call at a time that suits you. We talk through your business, what you are currently doing, and what needs to change. No forms, no pressure, no obligation.

02

Receive a fixed price quote

After our call I send you a clear, fixed price quote covering exactly the services you need. You know the full cost before agreeing to anything.

03

I take over the accounting

Once you are happy, I handle everything we agreed: bookkeeping, CIS returns, VAT, payroll, or year-end accounts, depending on your package. You hand it over and get back to running your business.

04

You get same-day answers whenever you need them

Throughout the year, I am your direct point of contact. Message or call with any question and you will hear back from me, personally, the same day.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

A general accountant can file your return, but builders have specific considerations that a generalist may not flag. CIS deductions, the right VAT scheme for your turnover, and the sole trader versus limited company question all affect how much you keep. Getting those decisions right from the start makes a real difference.
If you are registered under the Construction Industry Scheme, your contractor deducts CIS tax from each payment before you receive it. You still need to submit a self assessment tax return at the end of the year, and any overpaid CIS tax can be reclaimed. I handle the return and make sure any refund you are owed is claimed.
There is no one-size answer, and it depends on your turnover, how much you take out of the business, and your personal circumstances. A limited company can reduce your tax bill at higher profit levels, but it brings more reporting obligations. I work through the numbers with you and give you a straight answer based on your actual situation.
Yes. Most clients who come to me for the first time have a backlog or gaps in their records. I have seen far worse and it does not put me off. We start with a clear picture of where things stand, catch up what needs catching up, and put a proper system in place going forward.
