Is your CIS set up actually costing you money?

Answer five quick questions and find out whether you are claiming everything you are entitled to and staying on the right side of HMRC.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From monthly CIS returns through to your annual self assessment, I take care of the paperwork so nothing gets missed and no deadlines are skipped.

01

CIS Returns

Every month, HMRC expects your contractor to verify you and deduct tax at source before paying you. I make sure your registration is correct, your deduction rate is right, and your payment and deduction statements are kept in order. If you have been deducted at the higher rate when you should not have been, I will sort that out too.

02

Self Assessment Tax Returns

As a subcontractor, the CIS deductions your contractors take are advance payments toward your tax bill. At the end of the tax year, I file your self assessment return, report every deduction, and claim back any overpayment you are owed. Many subcontractors get a refund they did not know they had coming.

Refunds claimed where due
03

Bookkeeping and Records

HMRC can ask for evidence of your CIS deductions at any time. I keep your records straight, reconcile your bank, and make sure your payment and deduction statements are filed correctly. If a contractor has applied the wrong deduction rate to your payments, I can spot it and help you correct it.

WHY IT WORKS

Why subcontractors come back every year

CIS is not complicated when someone who knows it is handling it for you.

You speak to David, nobody else

When you call or message, you reach me directly. There are no juniors passing your query around the office and no call centre reading from a script. I know your situation and I can answer your question the same day.

A fixed price before we start

You will know exactly what you are paying before I do any work. No hourly rates, no surprise invoices, no ‘we need to charge a bit more for that’. Everything is agreed upfront so you can budget properly.

I have run businesses myself

I had over 25 years of real-world business experience before I qualified as an accountant. I understand what it is like to be self-employed, to deal with contractors, and to want someone who gives you a straight answer rather than a lecture.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Four straightforward steps and you will never have to think about CIS admin again.

01

Book a free call

Use the booking link to pick a time that suits you. The call is free, takes about 20 minutes, and there is no obligation to go ahead. Tell me where you are at with your CIS situation and I will tell you exactly what needs to happen.

02

I review your situation

I will look at your registration status, your deduction rate, and whether you have any outstanding returns or refunds due. If something has been missed, I will tell you plainly what it is and how we fix it. No judgment.

03

You get a fixed price

Before I do anything, you get a written fixed price quote. You know what you are paying and exactly what that covers. If you are happy, we go ahead. If not, you walk away with more clarity than you came in with.

04

I handle everything

From that point, I deal with HMRC on your behalf. I file your returns, chase any refunds you are owed, and keep you updated in plain English. You get on with the work and I get on with the paperwork.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

No, and you are not the first person to be in that position. HMRC allows claims for overpaid CIS deductions going back six tax years. The sooner we look at it, the sooner we can work out what is owed, what can be reclaimed, and what needs to be filed to get you back on track.
You can file your own self assessment, but it is easy to miss deductions you are entitled to, apply the wrong figures, or report your CIS amounts in the wrong place on the return. Most subcontractors I work with get back more than my fee in unclaimed refunds. The cost of getting it wrong is usually higher than the cost of getting help.
The standard CIS deduction rate for registered subcontractors is 20 percent. The 30 percent rate only applies if you are not registered for CIS or if HMRC cannot verify your details. If you are registered and your contractor is still deducting at 30 percent, that needs to be looked at and corrected.
No, the process is the same. Each contractor verifies you with HMRC and deducts at your registered rate. The key is keeping all of your payment and deduction statements, because you will need the totals when your self assessment is filed. I can help you keep track of these and make sure everything is reported correctly.
