Is your electrical business accounting costing you money?

Answer five quick questions and get a clear picture of where your tax position and records actually stand.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From CIS deductions to your annual self assessment, I take care of the numbers so you can stay on the tools.

01

Self Assessment Tax Returns

Most electricians working for themselves need to file a self assessment return each year. I handle the whole process, from gathering your figures to submitting to HMRC on time. Every allowable expense gets claimed, including tools, test equipment, van costs, NICEIC or NAPIT membership fees, PPE, and your phone and broadband.

Filed on time, every time
02

CIS Returns and Subcontractor Deductions

If you work on construction sites as a subcontractor, the contractor deducts 20 per cent from your labour element under the Construction Industry Scheme. That money is yours and can be reclaimed or offset through your self assessment return. I verify your CIS registration, reconcile your monthly deduction statements, and make sure you get back what you are owed.

Claim back what is yours
03

Bookkeeping and VAT Returns

Once your turnover crosses the VAT registration threshold of 90,000 pounds in any rolling 12-month period, you are required to register and file quarterly returns. I keep your books in order throughout the year, identify the right VAT scheme for your business, and submit every return accurately and on time. You get a clear view of your finances without the admin burden.

Quarterly, accurate, sorted
WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

These are the reasons electricians across Scotland and the UK choose to stay with STZ Accounting.

You always deal with David directly

When you call or message, you reach me. Not a junior, not a team inbox, not a call centre. I know your business, your circumstances, and your history. That continuity means faster answers and fewer mistakes.

Fixed prices, agreed upfront

You know exactly what you pay before we start. There are no hourly rates, no unexpected invoices at year end, and no charge for picking up the phone. Sole traders start from 150 pounds plus VAT per month, covering bookkeeping, VAT, annual accounts and self assessment.

Real business experience, not just theory

I spent over 25 years running and working in businesses before I qualified as an accountant. That background means I understand cash flow pressure, late-paying clients, and the cost of materials before you invoice. I give practical advice, not textbook answers.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting started takes one phone call and no preparation on your part.

01

Book a Free Call

You book a free call through the calendar on this page. There is no obligation and no sales pressure. The call takes around 20 minutes and you speak with me directly.

02

We talk through your situation

Tell me where you are right now. Whether your records are tidy or a total mess, I have seen it all before. I will ask a few straightforward questions about your work, your income, and what you need help with.

03

You get a fixed-price quote

Once I understand your situation, I give you a clear fixed-price quote. No hourly estimates, no vague ranges. You decide whether to go ahead, with no pressure either way.

04

I take it from there

Once you are on board, I handle your accounting from that point forward. Every deadline gets filed on time, every allowance gets claimed, and you hear back from me the same day whenever you have a question.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

You must register for VAT once your taxable turnover exceeds 90,000 pounds in any rolling 12-month period. If you are close to that threshold, it is worth planning ahead. I can advise on the right VAT scheme for your type of work and handle registration and quarterly submissions for you.
Allowable expenses include tools and test equipment, consumable materials, your van, calibration costs, NICEIC or NAPIT membership, certification software, PPE, public liability insurance, your phone and broadband, training, and accountancy fees. The Annual Investment Allowance also lets you deduct the full cost of major equipment purchases in the year you buy them, up to 1,000,000 pounds.
If you work as a subcontractor on construction sites, contractors deduct 20 per cent from the labour element of your invoices under the Construction Industry Scheme. This is not a final tax. It gets credited against your overall tax liability when your self assessment is filed, and any excess is refunded. I reconcile your CIS statements and make sure every penny is accounted for.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies from April 2026 if your self-employment income exceeds 50,000 pounds, and from April 2027 if it exceeds 30,000 pounds. It means keeping digital records and submitting quarterly updates to HMRC instead of one annual return. If this applies to you, I will set everything up and handle the submissions so nothing changes from your side.
