WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From checking your registration to filing your completed return, I manage the detail so you can focus on the work that pays you.

01

Self Assessment Tax Return

I prepare and file your self assessment tax return, working through your income and expenses to make sure everything that can be claimed is claimed. Whether you operate as a sole trader or a limited company director, I handle it from start to finish. You receive a fixed price before any work begins, with no hourly surprises.

02

Corporation Tax Return

If you contract through a limited company, your corporation tax return is a separate filing obligation from your personal self assessment. I handle both, making sure they align correctly and your liability is calculated accurately. No deadlines are missed and no figures are left unreconciled.

03

Year-End Accounts and Bookkeeping

Accurate year-end accounts are the foundation of a correct tax return. I keep your records in order throughout the year so there are no gaps or surprises when your filing deadline arrives. This applies whether you are a sole trader, a director, or a CIS subcontractor.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Contractors need an accountant who understands their setup, responds fast, and charges a price that is clear from the start.

You always speak to David directly

There are no junior staff, no handoffs, and no call centres at STZ Accounting. When you have a question, you reach me. I know your situation and can give you a straight answer without needing to pass you on to someone else.

Fixed prices with no hidden extras

You receive a clear, agreed price before any work starts. I do not charge by the hour or add costs once a scope is agreed. That means you can plan your finances without worrying about what the invoice will look like.

25 years of real business experience behind the advice

Before qualifying as an accountant, I spent over 25 years working in real businesses. I understand the pressures contractors face because I have navigated similar ones myself. That experience shapes every conversation, not just the numbers on a return.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting your contractor self assessment sorted is a straightforward four-step process.

01

Book a free call

We spend around 20 minutes on the phone going through your situation. I find out how you contract, what income you have received, and whether there is anything specific we need to address. No paperwork required at this stage.

02

Receive a fixed price quote

After our call, I send you a clear, fixed price quote for the work ahead. You know exactly what you are paying before anything starts. No hourly rates and no extras added later.

03

Send me your records

You share your income figures, expenses, and any relevant documents. I work through them, ask any questions I have, and make sure every allowable expense is captured before preparing your return.

04

Review, approve, and file

I send you a draft of your self assessment return to review. Once you are happy with it, I file it with HMRC on your behalf and send you confirmation. That is it done for another year.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

Yes. As a director of your own limited company, you are required to file a personal self assessment tax return alongside your company’s corporation tax return. They are two separate obligations. I handle both for limited company contractors and make sure they align correctly.
Allowable expenses typically include equipment, software, professional subscriptions, mileage, home office costs, and training that is directly related to your work. The core rule is that the expense must be wholly and exclusively for business purposes. I review your records and identify everything you can legitimately include in your return.
You need to register with HMRC before you can file a return, and if you have already missed a deadline, penalties may apply. There is always a path to get back on track, though. Book a free call and I will walk you through exactly what to do based on your specific situation.
From April 2026, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to sole traders with income over 50,000 pounds per year in the 2024 to 2025 tax year. If that threshold applies to you, you will need recognised software and quarterly updates to HMRC going forward. I can help you prepare for the change and make sure you meet the new requirements from day one.
